What We’ve Got Here is a Failure to Communicate
Everybody wants secure borders.
But nobody wants to lose the current partisan pissing match. Is there a solution?
Yes. Mr. President, there is. However, because you started the whole idea of a glorious wall stretching from sea to shining sea — as a campaign stunt more than anything — and used it as the rallying cry for your supporters, which had a very large hand in winning you the Presidency, you really can’t lose this battle. Which makes you are the only person who can solve the problem.
The Solution
What everyone, including the Democrats, agrees on is that better border security is needed, because, in your own words, “if you don’t have secure borders, you don’t have a country.”
The sticking point is that nobody except you actually believes that big imposing wall as you envisioned it would have much effect on border security, and that it would be outrageously expensive and a really bad look for “the land of the free and the home of the brave.”
The Wandering Airborne Liberty Line (W.A.L.L.)
The military always uses acronyms to help define and sometimes redefine their various projects. In this case, you could use this tried and true method to redefine “wall” as an acronym.

The W.A.L.L. is a system of unmanned drones deployed at bases along the border. Using a combination of existing technologies, personnel and equipment including unmanned drones, satellite reconnaissance, helicopters and land-based forces, W.A.L.L. bases could be rapidly established at temporary installations along the border as needed. Each base could be equipped with various types of drones, from small reconnaissance drones to the larger units (Blackjack, ScanEagle etc.) which could be equipped with payloads such as emergency supplies and water, or in the worst-case scenario, high explosives (to combat drug cartels.) Pilots could be housed at existing military bases anywhere in the country, so they would not have to endure the harsh and lonely conditions along the Mexico border.
Drug trafficking and human trafficking could be stopped in their tracks with overwhelming force, through the application of U.S. military expertise that has been developed in desert warfare, jungle warfare, and the deployment of small footprint security forces using helicopters and drones. The U.S. military knows how to secure large areas of land. The U.S./Mexico border is not all that imposing, compared to the mountains of Afghanistan, the deserts of Iraq or the Jungles of Vietnam. It’s our country so nobody would be shooting at our soldiers. W.A.L.L. bases, set up at 50 – 100-mile increments along the border, could easily secure our borders in a way that has never been possible in the past, using the best and brightest in American technology, military hardware and our special expertise in military operations.
The best part about this plan is that, when we diplomatically solve the problems down in Central America that are causing people to flee to America, all the W.A.L.L. bases can disappear as suddenly as they appeared.
